Taking luxury footwear to new heights, Antwerp World Diamond Centre unveiled what it terms the “World’s Most Expensive Shoes” on December 4, 2013, possibly surpassing House of Harry Winston’s famous ruby shoes as the most expensive shoes in the world.
The paisley-pattern ankle boots of black leather are covered in diamonds with more than 39,000 diamonds fancily colored in pink, gray, and champagne for a grand total of 1,550 carats. According to the organization, constructing the boots took over 30,000 hours as the diamonds were hand selected and set. However, the hard work has undoubtedly paid off as the fancy piece of footwear is valued at just over $3.1 million.
While the public’s response to the unveiling of the newest addition to the Antwerp collection has been less than stellar, other jewelry and diamond experts are applauding its craftsmanship. The diamonds were all selected from Antwerp-based companies, including Diarough/UNI-Design and A.F. Vandevorst. The cross-shape logo associated with A.F. Vandevorst is included on the boots, made completely from extremely rare reddish-pink diamonds that have helped this stylish pair of boots top out at the highest retail price ever recorded for footwear.
