Pizza actually dates back to the ancient Rome, Greek and Persian empires. Archeologists have found evidence from the ruins of the Italian city of Pompei that supports pizza being sold on street stands and also ovens in restaurants that were made for pizzas.
It started out as a poor man’s food until the 16th century when tomatoes were added and its popularity went worldwide. In 1830, the first restaurant in Naples sold it. Its famous Chef Raffaele Esposito made 3 pizzas for the King and Queen of Italy. The rest is history. In the 19th century, pizza came to America brought by the Italian settlers.
A normal diet of 1600 calories per day should not have more than 53 grams of fat in it. If someone would eat pizza for one meal with several slices, that would be most of their whole daily allowance. The most pizza ever eaten was in 2006 by Christian Dumitru who ate 200 pounds of pizza in one week. He definitely did not have the blessings of his nutritionist!
Enter the California Pizza Kitchen! There is a partnership between California Pizza Kitchens and the Special Education Foundation. They designated one day and donated 20% of all food proceeds in the four stores to the Special Education Foundation.
“This is a most generous donation from California Pizza Kitchen” states Diane Buhr, Executive Director of the Foundation. “We hope that our supporters will pack their four locations each Tuesday in September to help children with disabilities. With our joint efforts on Tuesdays in September, we can make a huge difference in the lives of these children.”
The Education Foundation assists children with disabilities in areas that are not funded with tax dollars. They grants scholarships, run summer camps, provide glasses, assistive devices and hearing aids. They work with special needs in special people.
Special kids need special teachers and special education teachers are terrific. Special education teachers are needed for schools to comply with requirements under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. They provide a special quality education and learning experience for students who have special needs.
These special education teachers have special training over and above a teaching degree. How much do special education teachers make? The average yearly special education teacher salary is $56,700. They certainly are worth all of that! They have a love not only for learning and children but also a heart for those that have difficulty learning.
Special education teachers are needed for all ages of school children starting at Kindergarten and going through High School. They are also used in specialty areas like math and science and life skills. They are needed and thankfully, there are many that step up to this challenge.
