The Fairmont Royal York celebrated Nuit Blanche in grand style with an illuminated art project featuring large scale projections of microscopic photos of the hotel’s rooftop bees.
The photos were drawn from photographer Chris Harrison’s study of the more than 300,000 bees that inhabit the 14th floor rooftop garden. The hotel partnered with LuminAd, an innovative company that uses projections for events and advertising, with a focus on sustainable and green living. For the Nuit Blanche project, LuminAd used a 15,000 lumen Sanyo PLC-XF47 projector to project the giant bees on the west wing of the hotel.
This season, the Fairmont Royal York bees produced over 430 pounds of honey that will be used in the kitchens of The Fairmont Royal York. The apiary is part of hotel’s efforts to source local and sustainable foods.
Nuit Blanche is Toronto’s annual sunset to sunrise celebration of contemporary art. This year marks its five year milestone.
