Radio Royal York – Episode 1: Urban Bee-Havior

In this episode, host Melanie Coates follows the arrival of the latest royals to check into the Fairmont Royal York and meets two members of the Toronto Beekeepers’ Cooperative and finds out what’s involved in setting-up an urban apiary. She also talks to the Fairmont Royal York’s Executive Chef David Garcelon about a honey of a plan he has for the hotel’s dining rooms.

Map of the Week: Urban Honey Bees

The Toronto Star has posted a Google map, providing a birds-eye view idea of the area the bees cover from their hives atop the Fairmont Royal York. Bees fly four kilometers in all directions, which means that gardens from the Don Valley to the CNE grounds are being visited by our working bees.
